Whilst the W3C's vision for a semantic web continues to gather momentum, semantic technologies are already in use across a variety of fields, including;

Law Enforcement:

  • Intelligent querying across multiple, unrelated systems
  • Intelligent recognition and filtering

Enterprise Data Integration/ Enterprise Application Integration (EDI/EAI)

  • Flexible and agile message mapping (transforming the contents of a message type)
  • Federated querying (searching multiple databases through a query)

Logistics and Planning:

  • Representations of plans and resources that can be processed by computers
  • Knowledge exchanges between planning entities
  • Command and Control decision support systems

Medicine and Bioinformatics

  • Search and classification of very large bodies of research
  • Diagnostic decision support

Ontology’s unique approach will help CSPs by providing them seamless service modeling and service management capability in an agile, cost-effective manner.
